The journey begins!

Terry Fox, one of five Austin cyclists who will be biking across the United States, waves to well-wishers as the group leaves from the Hormel Institute this morning.

Julie Thomsen tears up as she talks about Dan Ulwelling early this morning in front of the Hormel Instititute. The five riders taking part in a cross country ride to raise money to fight cancer were riding in honor of Ulwelling.

Coast to Coasters plan out bicycle ride...

Dr. Dick Schindler, from left, Roe Erlandson, Jerry Ulwelling, Dave Thomsen, Julie Thomsen, and Terry Fox (not pictured) will all be taking part in a cross-country ride this summer. Schindler, Erlandson, Ulwelling, Thompson and Fox will be making the trek and Julie Thompson planned and mapped the entire route. - Eric Johnson/ Austin Daily Herald

This bike ride is in memory of Dan Ulwelling, who passed away from cancer 5 years ago.
