Day 0

We started the adventure Friday morning with a gathering for a press conference.  With a good crowd of press and friends, it was a teriffic sendoff for the journey to Newport Oregon.  We six plus Dave and Julie's dog Lilly piled into the RV and hit the road.  Then we got to know how to share a RV for 36 hours straight with six people and a dog.  We quickly settled into a routine sharing driving duties.  The weather was great, the scenery interesting, and the road crews were active with their projects.  While we slept Dick and Terry missed the beauty of Wyoming and Montana while they drove.  The highlight of the trip out was driving down the Columbia River on I84 with beautiful snow covered Mt Hood looming over the highway, pine tree covered mountains on our left, and the Columbia on our right.  The last 60 miles of our journey to Newport on hwy 20 was beautiful, with sections of a canopy covered road winding around the steep hills - a preview of our first miles on Monday.  Can hardly wait for the journey to begin.
Today, Sunday, we're getting organized, cleaning our bikes, shopping for missing supplies, relaxing, and enjoying the sights of Newport.  Beautiful blue skys with a light breeze; we hope it continues well into the trip.  Roe
