Jerry has been telling us Wyoming has the lowest population density in the US. I believe it. Along today's ride from Riverton to Casper, the map showed towns every ten miles for our afternoon ride. We were looking forward to opportunities for ice cream and fresh drinks to cool ourselves from the hot sun. The towns consisted of a few buildings and more than a few old cars, but no commerce. That made the refreshments even more welcome when we arrived at the RV park in Casper.
Steve Greenman joined us again today and we really enjoyed his company. The morning temperatures were comfortable and we occupied ourselves spotting dozens of antelope and a few coyotes. The biggest town along the way, Shoshoni, was interesting, with a ghost town side street. Julie met us for lunch in Hiland, which was a saloon and a 4 unit motel without windows. We helped ourselves to a picnic table in the parking lot. The whole day was on US 20/26; there was quite a bit of traffic but the shoulders were good. We saw quite a few motorcycles going each way - apparently coming and going to Stergis. Tonight the Greenmans - Steve, Cheryl, and Andy - took us to dinner at a cowboy restaurant - we in non-cowboy attire. They served us a nice dinner (no pasta tonight), and half of our group stayed for entertainment from a cowboy band. We non-nightowls came back to blog and plan tomorrows ride.

ReplyDeleteHi biker dudes- Are you resting on Sat. Aug. 20th? Dad, I'm wondering about trying to see you while you're around the midwest and wondered what your plans were for next weekend. (I know you may need to wait until later in the week to see how you're all doing and where you're at.) I hope you all had a great day in eastern Wyoming today. I'm very jealous of you all! Mom has our kiddos for two nights, and it's been wonderful. We went out for a 2 1/2 hour hike by North Bear Creek- you'd love it. The dogs are tuckered out, as they probably ran about 12 miles today. Love, Erin
ReplyDeleteFYI, Hwy 60 in MN is closed from Zumbro Falls to Wabasha, detoured north on Hwy 63 to Lake City and then east to Wabasha. Thought you might like that info before you get too close. Bridge is being replaced.
ReplyDeleteYou all are amazing and we are following you each day.
If the bridge is still closed you ( also me, cuz I will be riding that leg next week!) might want to consider going north of Zumbrota and over to Lake City and then down. The ride from Lake City to Wabasha is great along the river with wide shoulders. I've done that ride a couple of times. I don't know about the roads north of Zumbrota but I can check it out if you want options. Let me know on my e mail address (torgerson12@gmail.com). It could be the detour is still the best option.
ReplyDeleteI continue to watch you guys daily on the garmin site as well as on the blog. I am impressed with your progress and look forward to seeing if I can stay with you guys next Thursday and Friday!!
