Day 31

Greetings to all!  We had another adventure some day!  We had to plan a new route due to hurricane Irene last night.  It did however need some tweeking after they took route and found themselves being pulled over by the Police and pulling them off of route 7 and redirecting them to route 7A.   They also discovered that the route we had planned on had some road closures too.  So Mister Officer did some checking and gave them better information so they moved on to the next town and did some more investigating and mapped a different route.

Today we got to see the wrath of Irene through the Vermont countryside.  It was truly a delightful day with spectacular scenery but also a sobbering day with the sights of the destruction.  The power of the water and it's flooding could only be imagined after seeing the destruction first hand.  We are having debates today as to if Vermont has been the best as far as scenery in all of the states we have passed thru.

The General Store seems to be a recurring theme and the roadside stands were busy prepping for the tourists and the Labor Day weekend.

We pulled into camp tonight and were pondering what the last day of our adventure would be like.  All of this so bitter sweet.  Anxious to accomplish what they have set out to do but sad to see it all end.  It really did go by so fast we can hardly believe it.  We just want to say Thanks to all of you who have been blogging and reading our blogs.  It is one of the big highlights of our day too.!!  We look forward to seeing everyone when we return to share the joy we have recieved out here on this journey.

Time to turn in so I can dream of tomorrow and hope the memories of this journey will linger for a long time to come!
Good Night!  Julie

  1. What a joy it has been to read your thoughts and see all the pictures from your amazing adventure. I was SO sorry to learn of Dave's mishap and injuries...I can only imagine his disappointment. Julie, you are incredible....I cannot believe what all you have done! Do you realize how lazy you make the rest of us look? Oy. What a delight to have your mother with you! Best of luck to you all as you complete your journey - I'll look forward to reading all about it. And if someone has an address to send a donation for cancer research in Dan's memory and your honor, please pass it along. For now, safe travel, once again.

  2. I can't believe tomorrow is your last day... As others have mentioned, I don't know what I am going to do at night without having the blogs and pictures to see. You probably aren't going to be sure what to do with yourselves without biking 100+ miles every day!

It is clear you have all enjoyed yourselves and I know you'll enjoy the final leg of this amazing journey. We are anxious to see you again and hear more about everything.

  3. What an amazing accomplishment! It has been fun reading about your great adventure. Know that everyone here has been thinking about each of you daily. I have to confess that I have always wanted to have one of those colorful bike riding shirts that I have seen in all the pictures, are they also available in adult sizes? Ha Ha Jerry got you! Have a safe trip home I'd like to treat you all at the DQ when you get home! What a story you all have to tell.

  4. Ride safely on the last day of this unbelievable journey you have been on. I think we should all gather around the pool so you can talk and we can listen. I can't promise DQ, but I CAN promise wine . . . and adoration. I am trying to imagine what Dan is thinking! You have shown him the greatest honor by completing this "dream" in his memory. As his family, we will never, ever forget it. God Bless.
Love to each and every one of you.

  10. Thanks for including me on this journey. Your blogs have made me feel as if I was right there next to you. Loved the comments, pictures, and the reason for doing this, to help find a cure for cancer. I did contact Good Morning America and gave them your ride schedule for the last couple of days, but it looks like you've had to make some changes. Who knows, maybe they will find you. Lots of Love, Wendy Hanson.

  12. Wow...what an incredible journey you've shared with so many of us! This has been so inspirational and truly a highlight of my summer. I so proud of each of you!
The important thing is to strive towards a goal which is not immediately visible. That goal is not the concern of the mind, but of the spirit.
Godspeed to you all...return to your homes and loved ones safely.
    With admiration and love...Cindy Hanson
