I have to say that I am truly with a bunch of GENTLEMEN!! They let me have the hotel room all to myself for an hour so I COULD SOAK IN THE TUB! It was truly grand! Especially since I have rhinosaurus heels.
Another day in the driver seat and Pearl and I are doing well! It is truly amazing to watch the stamina of these fine athletes. Each day they pop out of bed just a little earlier to try to beat the heat. Each day they are in great moods and ready to ride. They line up and wait for me to read the daily blessing and off they go.
Today they rode out of Wyoming and into South Dakota like the cowboys they are!! The scenery was fabulous! We went past Devil's Tower and into the Black Hills. I have never seen the Black Hill's so it was new scenery to me We stopped at a 100 year old General Store in Alladin SD.
We are entering Sturgis Country and today was the last day of the rally. We still saw a lot of cycles in the area most of them heading home. The guys were riding along today when someone yells to them from his cycle "Hey Terry" and then a second later "Hey Jerry". We can only figure out that it must have Been Harry Davis from the Y by the description they gave of the rider on the cycle.
We are here in Sturgis with the RV park to ourselves since everyone has gone home and it is a full moon. Beautiful night and perfect temp. No bugs and dishes done.
The guys rode 139 miles today. They left at 6:15 this morning and came in around 5:30ish. They always come in with big smiles and great tales. I give them chocolate milk and cocoa cola for the quick sugar to the blood stream. Like any good mother would do!!
Lilly's perspective may sound something this. "I am really enjoying my summer vacation! I get to sleep in and hog the bed. I like it when the bikes leave in the morning so then I can go swimming in the newest lake, pond or stream. If we are not near any water my mom plays frisbee with me. Sometimes two and three times a day. We drive along and I sleep on the queen size bed all to myself. When we get in at the end of the day I get ice cold water with ice cubes and all. I really hate for this vacation to end."
While I was waiting for the guys this afternoon I was parked in front of an RV Sales place. A young couple came out and asked me if I needed help. I told them no I was waiting for some bicylists to come as I didn't want them to make a wrong turn. They asked me about Pearl and if I liked her. They thought it was the super buy of the day from the RV place and wanted to know if they could buy it when we are done. They were great and gave the guys a personal escort across the bridge to the right turn so they wouldn't get lost. They gave me their email address and said they would watch the blog. Great Folks out here!!
Well thats all Folks! ZZZZZZZ
Julie

ReplyDeleteHello all. I have been following your journey and sending good thoughts and prayers your way each day. Although Dan cannot be with you physically, you have to know that he is with you all the way in spirit. He loved/loves you all so very much . . . not just because you're bicycling addicts but because you are addicted to life!! The Ulwellings are so proud!! Keep up the good work. We look forward to hearing all of your stories in person when you get back home.
ReplyDeleteI think the correct term for the guys you're riding with is Stud muffins
ReplyDeleteTerry- thanks for the Garmin tips..I'm logged in now and got a big smile on my face when I saw that you were in Sturgis:) Getting closer to MN. I called the Ford dealership in Sleepy Eye and New Ulm- if you need anything stop in there. You all are truly amazing and such an inspiration.

AMAZING Pictures. I was out of touch for a few days - I won't rub it in since I was vacationing - but love the blog so I can quickly catch up!
ReplyDeleteMy boys are counting down the days as you approach MN and Faribault, more specifically!! :)
I loved hearing the quick note about my dad, Jerry, sharing is wealth of knowledge about the country...anyone who knows him will giggle about those quotes. And yes, of course that's a compliment!!
XOXO - Katie Dillon
I have been following the Coast to Coasters on this blog, but haven't since vacationing in the Black Hills since last Thursday.
ReplyDeleteWe were heading up to Devil's Tower on our motorcycles, and knew the Coast To Coasters were going through this vicinity but were taken by pleasant surprise when we met them as they were riding up a long climb. We slowed our MCs when we saw a group riding bycycles and realized it was The Coast To Coasters. I had already ridden past Dave when I realized who they were and yelled to Terry and Jerry. I don't think Roe and Dick heard me yell to them. I hoped I didn't startle their concentration as they climbed but wanted to acknowledge and encourage their task at hand.
We returned the same route to Sturgis but these guys were amazingly fast and we weren't able to catch back up to you before the end of your day.
So, who were those guys on the MCs? Well, it was Wayne and Dustin Wollenburg along with another friend from Austin.
I want to wish you all the best of luck on your adventure.
Wayne
Good Gravy Golly, today was the first time I checked the blog. I have been missing out but I am all caught up now. I've read every entry! I especially enjoy hearing about the people you have met along the way. Jules, I am curious....any update on Pearl and the brown vintage camper? Roe, I am having lunch with your mom on Wednesday, I'll give her a hug from you. My definition of inspiration is the entire team of Coast to Coasters!
