Day 16

Well we had an interesting evening last night in the middle of NO WHERE South Dakota!  We stayed at a stop in the road that had full hook up for the RV.   Who would have thunk it?  It was called T-34.  A gal named Trudy from Floodwood MN. rode her horse out here with her twin sister and ended up marrying a rancher.  She was a real interesting gal with lots of stories and great pictures on the wall of the goings on in that area. I will share more of her stories later if anyone wants to listen.

It was a wizard of night at the ole RV sight tho, we thought Roe and Terry were going to be like Dorothy in the wizard of OZ.   It was so windy the RV was moving and Terry's tent was wapping him in the face. It didn't rain but I would venture to guess the wind was about 45 mph.  It was crazy!

The guys got off to an early start so they could beat the heat.  However the heat kind of stayed away.  It was comfortable and the wind was going in the right direction.  We went through Pierre and went over the Missouri river and it was still quite high.  There was still quite a few places that had sandbags still in place. It was really a gorgeous drive tho.  Lots of Sunflower fields with the big yellow faces looking towards the sun.  it was an ocean of yellow.

We did make it to Miller SD today but not in the fashion we had hoped.   There was a race towards the end to get some ice cream in Highmore and Dave took a big digger.  He is ok but did end up in the hospital with a broken collar bone and some big scrapes on his face. It was a real damper on the end of the day but I am just glad it wasn't worse.  He is in good spirits and will be spending the night at the Miller SD Hospital. He will not be finishing the trip on his bike but the rest of us will continue on and finish what we started.

We had a pleasant surprise tonight tho too!  Erik Schindler and his son Zack came to meet us in Miller.  Erik is going to ride with us for a couple days now.  We are going to be getting some more company tomorrow night in Volga SD. as Greg Storey will be joining us too.  Dave will be riding back to Austin with Greg Storey's dad who is bringing Greg.

I also want to post some information about where we are staying when we get to New Ulm on thurs. Aug.18th.

On Friday Aug. 19th we are going to end in Zumbrota and not in Wabasha like we had planned. Due to some road construction on hwy 60.  We will have a detour and we will also stop in Faribault to see some family that lives on the route.  The name of the Campground in Zumbrota is called Shades of Sherwood.

We hope to be in Wabasha on Sat. morning by noon weather permitting.  We will be staying at the Wabasha Motel and RV park.  So if anyone wants to join us we would  love to see you.

Well time to sign off!!

  3. Just noticed that Julie didn't mention where they would be in New Ulm. This is not "official" but Roe mentioned to me Flandrau State Park, in case anyone needs that info right now.
