Day 6

Well I can hardly believe it is day 6!  Each day is truly an adventure!  Today I sent them off 35 miles in the wrong direction they climbed up switchback after switchback to 6200 ft twice before I realized this was off .  The only redeeming factor was that I had HOT Chocolate Chip Cookies just out of Pearl's oven waiting for them at the first summit.  So we loaded up the truck and moved to Stanley where they would have been,

The ride down from Lowman Idaho today was absolutely amazing.  The Payette River was full  of rafters and the water was emerald.  I stopped to take a photo and the sound was so loud you had to shout to speak to each other.

The Salmon River was also along the route and that terrain was  a bit different but just as gorgeous. It was so fabulous it looked fake.

The weather cools off nice at night and gives the guys some cooler temps in the morning for riding before it heats up. It is truly amazing to watch these guys ride these mountains!  It is an incredible amount of work.  They are all acting like 12 year old boys.  It is fun to watch! But I still do worry and feel great relief when they are in at the end of each day.  Another reason for the Gin & Tonic,

greetings to all back home!!

Julie

The weather can change in a heartbeat so we did get a bit of a

The Challis Hot Springs RV Park was full so we are at the Country Junction tonight.  Laundry is cheap!

Tonight we ate like royalty on some of Terry's fabulous venison brats Mit Kraut.  I enhanced my meal with a much needed Gin & Tonic.  It was time for some hard liquor for medicinal purposes, to heal my pride.

  1. Don't beat yourself up Julie. Roe said the route you sent them on was actually prettier than the planned one. I'm sure the cookies worked wonders! Glad you finally got a night off cooking duties in Lowman. Roe says the food's been great! I'm sure you're enjoying the beauty in that part of the country as much as the guys are. Keep your "man harem" in tow and drive safely.

  2. Julie,
Don't beat yourself up, just think if you had not sent them on that journey they would have missed out on all of the beautiful views! It is all in a days path. No worries, just enjoy each day as is comes!

  3. Great to hear things are going well. I thought of you guys this morning when my Sunday cycling group did 50 miles with three "big" climbs in Afton (near Afton Alps Ski area) with the longest two at slightly over 2 miles and the grade was at the steepest maybe 6%! The third was steep - maybe 10% - but was a gut busting 1/2 mile long...... We are doing a small fraction of what you are doing and feeling it so great for you guys to do what you are doing and with the joy of young men! After all this is suppose to fun right?!

As I tell the guys up here what you are doing it makes our "hilly" 50 this morning seem like kindergarten!

Good luck. Keep it going! I look forward to seeing you in Volga SD. I'm not sure I can keep up with you over 130+ miles but I'm willing to try...maybe Julie will need a ride along on the second half... just kidding.

P.S. Consider finding a product called "Body Glide". Works wonders in the right spots. I use it liberally and when applied in the right places leaves me no saddle sores. Carry it with and reapply after the first half of the day. I've used on most rides but especially helps on 100 milers.
