Day 19

I was so looking forward to yesterday, coming into Faribault and seeing my grandsons Hunter, Hudson ,Hayden and my daughter Katie.  They were cheering and running along side of us as we came biking into town. It made my heart flutter. I talk to them almost every night and to see their faces was a rush. To see Nancy was extra special--I love my family so much!!  They also had cake and sandwiches for us. It was such a proud moment. All these things we do seem so important but at the end of the day it is family and friends that keep us moving forward! It was really fun to have my sister Mary and Gary as a personal escort as we left Faribault.  I love my teammates and we keep each other focused and motivated--Jerry.

Signing on Julie;

Day 19 was in MN. joined by friends and family.  It was truly a delightful day.  The weather was fabulous once again.  The guys started the day with 11 riders and added two more as the day went on.  We went from New Ulm to Faribault where Jerry met his enthusiastic family!! We served up sandwiches once again.   OK It is NOT Grinders Deli but a very cheap imitation!  Susie you set the bar way to high for us!  First no homemade bread.  Second no smile from Susie!  We do miss the folks back home!

 We pulled into a parking lot at the edge of Zumbrota and just a few minutes after the riders arrived my phone rang and it was the TV station trying to track us down.  They were not far down the road and were there with in 10 minutes.  The Rochester Post Bulletin is coming to Wabasha today.

 We stayed in a camp site that was down a long gravel road so we had to shuttle the riders.

When we finally arrived we were met by more family members, neighbors and friends.  The night was a total reunion!!!   And much to all of our delight the whole Ulwelling came Kate, Zak, Dillon, Janelle, Pat, and Kate's friend Mark. They came bearing gifts from Kate's garden and Janelle's fabulous Tabouleh!!  We were showered with gifts from bagels to cream cheese and beer and wine.  It was very much appreciated and would give anyone the WARM FUZZIES!!!

 It was a late night visiting and kabitzing about the things we've seen and the workings of Pearl.  So that is why the blog was not posted until this morning!  We look forward to today as we have more family & friends awaiting our arrival in Wabasha!  Today will be short in comparison to yesterday so it should be an early arrival. We are estimating just before noon or so.

Julie

  3. Wow, what a gift to be able to experience two days on the road with the gang. For those reading this blog there are two things that you get only a glimpse or small taste each day. After riding with them for 243 miles over two days, I have a whole new insight into this fantastic trip.

    First is the unbelieveable individual fitness as well as the power of the Coasters working together to finish to achieve their goal.

    Second is the passion and care that Julie has to achieve the goal as well. Julie's planning, coordination and passion to achieve the same goal is amazing. From pickles on the sandwiches (for extra salt!) to icy cold chocolate milk (the best recovery drink for endurance athletes - according to the Doc) she has thought of everything and delivers her support with a smile. I never saw it but I understand that there also have been a few scoldings for the "boys will be boys" activities as well!!

    Keep it up gang. Listen to Julie and keep up the great attitudes. You will be at the Atlantic Ocean in no time and looking back at this experience.

    Thank you for allowing me to jump in and ride along in your slip stream for two days. It was fantastic!!

    Dave if you are reading this, heal quickly. I'll call in a few days to see how you are doing.

  4. Dr. Schindler: What a fantastic adventure for you and your fellow bikers! Have been following you on this blog --- seems previous comment has been 'lost' --- would love to catch up with you in Wabasha (my home town) but prior commitments and a time-squeeze are making it unlikely. But God's blessings be with you. Joyce

  5. It was great to hear about your warm welcome in MN and the joining of more riders. Stay safe. I am calling Dave T. every few days and he says he has good help from neighbors and is doing OK in spite of onward pain. Kudos to all including the Cook and Bottle Washer. Rose Worlein in St. Pete FL

  6. It's so exciting to see the bikers coming down the road. It's hard to believe they are all smiling after how far they have come, and there were so many more than I expected. It's fun to be part of, I will see you today in Wabasha and will give a personal hug to Julie for how well she is taking care of everyone. Love, Nancy

  11. Hi to all.
    I sent a comment when Dave got hurt, must not have gone. So sorry that Dave can't finish. Usually I would say ice cream is worth anything, but not this time. If I'd known it would be a staple on this trip I would have tried to come along for moral support. Ha. So glad you had an nice visit with family, Jerry. You are on the down slope now. Keep safe and we so enjoy your blogs. Praying for nice calm weather for your finish. Good luck the rest of the way.
