Day 8

Good Day Indeed.  Well the guys rode 117 miles today in good time.  They came in around 4:30 so that was a nice change of pace.   It gives them a little down time before getting right into shower, laundry, eat, blog mode.
It was an interesting day going thru some nuclear energy testing sites and even a little museum.  I didn't stop but it sure looked interesting. The guys didn't stop either because they weren't open yet. You really couldn't see much out there in the barren land.  INL Idaho National Laboratories were signs were plenty along the road side.

It was absolutely gorgeous coming down into Swan Valley where we are staying tonight. This is big fly fishing country and she said they are just starting to come in to fish because the water has been so high due to the amount of late snow they had this spring.

The campsite is nice and shaded and the temp is cooling down nicely. Tomorrow we go into Yellowstone and then we get a day off.  It will be nice to relax for a day.

Time is really flying by I can hardly believe it.

Signing off!!

Julie

  2. Great day! Be aware this time of year in Yellowstone, you will have to be at the park no later than 8-9:00 in the morning to get a camping spot for that night. From Moran junction to the south entrance of the park is a pretty good drive. It's another 30-45 minutes to any of the main areas from there. If you can't get a spot tomorrow night, there's a camping spot just to the south of the main park that usually has space (Flagg Ranch). Teton National Forest also has spots. It's a huge park so pick a couple things to see an focus on them. The falls area is beautiful and there's lots of geothermal stuff on the way. It's the Canyon area. Old Faithful is the opposite direction and it's pretty cool - the lodge is neat too. If you choose that, head north towards Madison after and stop at the Firehole River - it's heated by the geothermal activity and it's a good spot for a swim. Have a great ride and enjoy the rest day.
